Steven and I go to ALASKA!

Day 1: Seattle.

 

After arriving in Seattle there was a charter bus that drove us around Seattle for a short tour.

 

The famous "Gum wall". Gross and cool all at the same time.

We also visited Pikes Market. There were so many shops and flowers! We had an amazing lunch and listened to some fun street performers.

 

After lunch it was time to head to the dock and board the cruise ship. 

 

Day 2: At Sea



The first full day on the boat was spent at sea. Each evening you were asked to dress up. This was at one of the formal nights.

 

Day 3: Ketchikan

In Ketchikan it rains 310 days of the year. We happened to be there on one of the days it didn't rain. So we caught a tour bus and visited the totem pole village. We also saw the salmon fishery and walked down Creek Street.

We thought Creek Street was a street "along" a creek. NOPE! It is a street built "over" the creek! Very cool!

 

 Day 3: Tracy Arm Fyord and Juneau

Starting at 6:00 am the boat made it's way up Tracy Arm Fyord. This narrow but of water between two mountains was created by a giant glacier. At the end of the Fyord you could see what was left of the glacier and all along there were small iceberg floating in the water.

Once we arrived in Juneau we took a bus to the Mendenhall Glacier and hiked out to the Nugget falls. The glaciers are really a treat to see. I have never seen a brighter blue!

Although we were constantly warned about bears we never did get to see one.

After we left the Mendenhall Glacier we took a boat out to see the whales. We were really lucky then! We saw several humpback whales jumping out of the water

  and even saw a group bubble feeding. I will post the movie we took as long as everyone promises not to be offended by the oriental screaming lady!

 

Day 4: Skagway

Skagway is was a small mining town that began as the port to the great Klondike gold rush. We spent the day walking around town. There was a light drizzle this day so we decided after a few hours to get back on the boat to dry.

 

Day 4: At Sea

This day at Sea started with an amazing 3 hour long brunch! There was so much food it was impossible to try everything although we tried, we really tried. The flower and pirate face you see was sculpted out of watermelons. All the decorations were made out of food. The rest of the day we spent doing activities on the boat, playing volleyball with other couples from Steven's work and napping.

 

Day 5: Victoria Canada

So this was probably my favorite stop. This was my first time out of the USA!

The building were just amazing and the flower gardens were beautiful. We saw and did as much as we could the few hours we were there. Then it was back to the boat for our return trip home.

We arrived back in Seattle Friday morning and spent a few hours down at the pier before we went to the airport for the final flight back to reality.

 

After a week away I was glad to come home to my wild children. They were thrilled with all the presents we brought; although I believe Grandma was the happiest to see us. I will tell you that of all our vacations this was the most relaxing. I would book another cruise in a heat beat! So if you can't decide if you want to try a cruise, take my advice, DO IT! You won't be sorry.
